Program Description:

UGA- Franklin- UGA en España, Cadiz Summer

The UGA en Espana, Cádiz program focuses on the Spanish language and culture.  Students take two SPAN courses (6 academic credits) taught on the campus of the University of Cádiz by UCA faculty.  Courses offered include intermediate and advanced conversation and composition, topics in Spanish culture, and introduction to Hispanic Linguistics.

The program features a homestay in local homes with full board and weekly laundry.  Activities include a weekend trip to Granada to visit the world-famous Alhambra.  Participants in this program also visit what are among the most storied and historically important of the cities of Andalusia—Sevilla, Córdoba, and Granada—and Jerez and Tarifa are right around the corner.  So consider spending six weeks in the city that Greeks say was founded by Hercules!

Program Location

Cádiz is among the oldest continuously inhabited cities of Western Europe. Much of its ancient feel and charm is still present with the casco antiguo, a warren of winding stone streets joining an assortment of unexpected plazas.

A leisurely walk in any direction will bring you to the sea wall that bounds the old city, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  Wide beaches span large sections of this ‘almost island’, while rocks filled with tide pools dominate others.  Off the Caleta beach, a lighthouse marks the San Sebastián fortress at the end of a long, narrow peninsula and makes for a pleasant stroll out into the harbor.

Super super awesome staff. Aitor, Camilla, and Maria were incredible resources, really friendly, and always open to helping us learn and improve.

I learned a ton of information, and the workload was not too much. It was appropriate because it enabled us to learn a lot while not constantly be worrying about our classes while we traveled most weekends

Do the program! The experience was absolutely priceless. Not only were the classes fantastic, but the coordinators were wonderful as well. You have time to travel on your own, and to learn and grow with friends that you make while immersed in the culture of Cádiz. The beach is a nice perk, and the included excursions are marvelous as well. Best experience of my life.
