METU is Turkey’s premier state university rated among the top world universities in several fields/rankings (i.e. QS, Times Higher Education, Webometrics, Shanghai, etc.) over the years (THE “World University Rankings 2014-2015” rank 85th among top 400 universities; Top 100 Universities by Reputation). In QS, METU repeatedly ranks among top universities in the world in 15 subject areas under engineering and technology, basic sciences, and social sciences.English as the only language of instruction in all its degree programs. Over 2000 international students from 85 different countries studying toward a myriad of academic degrees. 2000+ international undergraduate students apply each year with 13% acceptance rate.
There are 107 graduate and 69 doctorate programs available in Graduate Schools of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Informatics, Applied Mathematics and Marine Sciences Graduate Schools. Marine Sciences conducts the academic program studies at İçel-Erdemli.
The language of instruction at METU is English. METU School of Foreign Languages takes the initiative to teach English to students at Preparatory School.
Owing to the quality academic education that emphasizes merit and excellence in scientific, cultural and intellectual studies as well as owing to the accomplished and qualified METU graduates, the University has become one of the distinguished and respectable institutions of Turkey. Today, the University offers education to over 28.000 students. The total number of the alumni now is above 120.000.
A lively and vibrant campus rated as “Turkish University with Richest Social Life” by Newsweek-Turkey. A self-sustaining 45 square kilometers (17-mile squares) campus with a forested area of 30 square kilometers (12-mile squares) including its very own lake, Lake Eymir as well as 19 dorms, many shops, restaurants, cafes, banks, medical center, museums, libraries and other facilities. Dormitory capacity of approximately 7700 students as well as an on-going construction of a new dorm with a capacity over 2000. A wide range of sports and recreational facilities, including gymnasiums, tennis courts, basketball and football fields, jogging trails, Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, and an outdoor swimming pool. As off-campus facilities, lodges at Elmadağ (30 kilometers from the METU Ankara campus) and a mountain resort at Uludağ near Bursa where mountain climbing and various skiing activities are possible during winter for students and staff. 96 students clubs, 37 sports teams and 1000+ in-house cultural and sports activities organized by students each year. Additionally, METU Cultural and Convention Center hosts many cultural, intellectual, art activities throughout the year, open to the general public.

- Minimum GPA: 2.5 and good standing at UGA
- A limited number of Erasmus Scholarships (approx 800 Euro/month) may be available to UGA students each year.
- UGA - METU Exchange applicants should submit a complete OGE General Scholarship Application to be considered.
- Final Funding is provided via METU after arrival.

METU Accommodation (housing)
General Information about METU Dormitories
METU aims to provide on- campus accommodation to all exchange students who wish to stay in the campus dormitories. There are 3 types of campus dormitories; State, Semi-Private and Private. Meals are not included in the dormitory fees but each facility has canteen or cafeteria where students can eat breakfast and other meals for a nominal cost.
Most of the dormitories at METU are located in the same general area near the campus shopping center with banks, post office, the medical center and several sports facilities. The shopping center has a variety of eateries open daily, including weekends and holidays. Municipality buses and private minibuses (dolmus) run regularly to and from main parts of the city daily including weekends and holidays from early morning until midnight. Transportation all over the campus is facilitated by regular bus shuttles which are free of charge for METU students. The applications for campus accommodation are collected by METU International Cooperations Office (ICO) each semester. The prospective incoming exchange students are informed by ICO in line with the calendar of the application period. The accommodation application process starts once the incoming students are selected by METU. The dormitories and the types of rooms offered to the prospective students may change each year depending on the availability of vacant rooms at the campus dormitories. The monthly fees at campus dormitories are ranging from 250 TL to 1150 TL per month. Students are required to make payments upon arrival.
