ADPR NYC Maymester 2019

You've wondered about their mysterious acronyms. Idolized their client rosters. Studied their strategic approaches. And drooled over their work. Now explore the world's top communication agencies themselves. Learn about the structure of the industry's holding companies and its agency family trees. Get in touch with the latest trends, see up-to-the-minute work, and find out where the industry is headed. Get a real-time feel for the agency landscape and daily work environment.

While in New York, you'll be invited inside the hallowed halls to experience a firsthand look at traditional and nontraditional ad agencies; PR firms; and media branding, interactive, consumer culture, and viral content companies. You'll get a taste of how brands are propelled from the Big Apple, at places such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Translation, McGarry Bowen, McCann-Erickson, Amp3, Weber Shandwick, Agent16, TBWA, Interbrand, Lucky Branded Entertainment, Ketchum, BBDO, PHD, Mother, Razorfish, and Tribal DDB, among others.

Program Location

On campus in Athens for weeks 1 and 3, in NYC for week 2.

Your Faculty
Professor Kirsten Strausbaugh-Hutchinson teaches Advertising Message Strategy, Advanced Portfolio, Graphic Communication, and Advertising Campaigns. She serves as faculty advisor to the UGA AdClub, the student-run ad agency Hooper Sanford Baldwin Thomas, and the design house Studio120. Her instructional activities, in conjunction with these student-run organizations, are designed to promote advertising as a major and to provide students with exposure to professionals and issues in the field. Additionally, she coordinates and serves as faculty escort for the AdClub's annual New York Agency Tour.

2019 Program Itinerary

Class will be held on campus from May 15 - May 17, 2019. Students are expected to arrive in NYC on Sunday, May 19 and depart on Saturday May 25, 2019 for NYC Agency tours. Class will resume on campus on Tuesday May 28th (no class on Memorial day) and run through Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Housing 

Our accommodations for the NYC Agency Tour are at the fabulous ROW NYC Hotel. Take in the city from a prime location at the center of entertainment, ROWNYC roomdining, and transportation!

Program Costs

The program fee includes accommodations at ROW NYC Hotel and a small alumni event held in NYC. The program fee is generally around $750-800 each year (including the $150 security deposit paid upon acceptance to the program). In addition to the program fee, students will be expected to pay for 3 hours of in-state tuition and UGA mandatory fees. HOPE and ZELL scholarships may be applied towards the TUITION part of the program costs if applicable. See UGA's website for most up-to-date tuition rates for Summer 2019.

Other costs that are not included in the PROGRAM FEE, which students are responsible for, include: 
- Airfare/transportation to and from NYC
- Local ground transportation while in NYC
- Meals
- Personal entertainment
