A greater awareness of the environment impacts we have. Because of this trip, I came back and instituted a recycling program at my internship. It made me realize the call we have to steward this earth well. It showed me the importance of other industries besides just business or medicine.

My most significant take-aways from this program were that of time management, flexibility, and absorbing all of your surroundings. This was an awesome experience, and I made so many friendships that I will never forget. We were always on the go, forcing us to be accountable and flexible when the itinerary change.

I learned the most about how to become less self centered and think about my impact on the world. Every town was different from the next allowing for a diverse exposure to cultures. I also feel like a travel pro and I can't wait to go to many other countries.

Don't sign up for this if you want a vacation . It is a fantastic, fast moving trip full of adventure.

|
Just go with it! If you have any interest at all, trust that instinct. You never know who you will meet, what you will learn about yourself, and what your role is in the future of our environment.

What are your words of advice to students considering this program?
|
It is very fast pace and intensive. You will be doing once in a lifetime activities, and it will be very easy to overlook the magnitude of what you are doing. My advice to students considering this program is to absolutely do it, and do it with a mindfulness and intention. You will be tired, but you will most likely never be given the opportunity to do the things on this program again in your life. Live in the moment and routinely check in with yourself to process how amazing and incredible what you are doing actually is.

What are your words of advice to students considering this program?

While it is important to study and do your reading, it is so much more beneficial to listen and take notes when field guides are talking. You are going to learn so much more from someone who is passionate about what they're speaking on then a textbook will tell you. Take in all of your surroundings. Chances are you may never come back here and you definitely won't have the same experiences if you do go back. Hang out with different people in your group to get to know everyone. Staying with the same 5 people the entire time isn't going to expose you to new perspectives and maybe even new friends. Don't be afraid to go do something by yourself. I went on a hike by myself in Queenstown and it was one of the most amazing experiences I had. Be safe yes but don't wait for someone else to get on board to go out and do or see something amazing.
