What were the most significant take-aways from your experience?

I learned a lot about myself and the types of people I like to spend my time with because I had to completely start over and build myself a new support system. I also learned how to budget money better after not being able to work for 5 months. My philosophy class was my favorite and really interested me more in philosophy and ethics within the medical field.

I learned how to become more independent and outgoing. Being away from my friends and family for the first time in my life for an extended period of time was frightening, but the problem solving skills and self-reliance I developed will stay with me for the rest of my life.

What are your words of advice to students considering this program?
|
I'd tell them that university in the Netherlands is really different in America. There's a lot less busy work and more independent work. I'd also tell them to budget wisely as Amsterdam is expensive compared to Athens.

I highly encourage students to take part in an exchange program. Not only do you get to interact with locals, but you also get to meet people worldwide and make life long friendships. It's great for networking and getting outside your comfort zone.

It opened my eyes to big cultural differences between Americans and people of other countries. It made me more interested in studying outside of the US.
