Program Evaluation

The information was outlined very clear via email or in person. If there were any questions anyone associated with the program would do everything within their power to help.

UGAMI is located on one of the best islands on this planet! Sapelo Island is very beautiful and clearly has been taken care of properly for many years -- everything has been preserved very nicely. Everything is very safe; if at any point there was a feeling of uncertainty you could clearly ask anyone for help and they would assist you.

The work of the program was a lot however everything was clearly gone over and the work in the field was very appropriate with the lessons we went over. The block format makes it to where you can study one subject solely for a few weeks enabling you to fully understand the topic. Sometimes the work did feel like a lot but that is how a block format works -- but I LOVE it so much more than a normal class setting. IF there was ever a concern about how much work there was you could bring it up and talk about it with the professors to find a solution. Everyone is very understanding.

I LOVED all of our little adventures off and on the island. The locations of the excursions, field trips, and site visits were always very awesome and very insightful. I learned a lot and made a lot of AMAZING connections.

I loved the way the apartments were set up. I really enjoyed how close they were and how open they were because it allowed all of us to hang out together and enjoy each other's company without having to go too far. I also REALLY loved where we were because we did not have to share rooms like we would have in the newer apartments. I enjoyed the historical feel of everything and how it was kept. There was someone always cleaning around the housing or doing laundry which was very nice. I loved how someone was willing to wash our sheets once a week for us (that helped us a lot with focusing on school) and would come in and tidy up everything.

I LOVED MRS. GRACIE AND EVERYTHING SHE COOKED! I, also, really loved our weekend meals. We would always eat together and it was very awesome to have that connection. I enjoyed everything we did and I REALLY loved how they would accomidate for being vegetarian (my friend) and for allergies. Everything was always wonderful! :)

We just didn't have enough time

We learned so much history about the people of Sapelo Island and we learned about the people that currently reside on Sapelo Island. We were focused on schoolwork and interacting with each other therefore we did not get to meet too many of the people on the island BUT once you did and once you ran into anyone from the island they were so nice and so sweet. They were always willing to share any information they had on their culture and the island.

The program was managed very well and the authoritative figures were always very understanding. IF there was ever a concern it was taken care of immediately and the people in charge would always keep everyone in the loop which was very nice and reassuring.

They were SOOO GREAT! Everyone understood that we had/have lives off the island or back home (no matter how far away it could have been). They would really try to accomidate to whatever was going on and they understood everything.

The program was much more than I could ever imagine! I learned so much and did so much that I never could have imagined.

I am at a loss for words at how incredible the experience was, although our time in the program was cut short. I truly love Sapelo, UGAMI staff, and the friends I made while I was there.

This is the BEST thing I could have done for my marine biology career. It is definitely worth it.

For future participants, explore the island as much as possible and take full advantage of your time there and the time you have with the people around you.
