Our pre-trip workload was very helpful. It was a basic overview and summary of how the typical US beef production system. This gave a good base knowledge and helped me brush up on some information to be knowledgable enough to analyze the Uruguay system and compare it to our own.

The locations were excellent. We started on the West side of the country which was very lush, good soils, and row crops. We then went to the middle of the country were it is drier and shallower soils with only grazing animals and forestry. Then we went to the East side of the country. There was a lot of grazing and rice production. Each location allowed us to see a different part of the country and get an idea of the different industries in the different regions.

The Uruguay study abroad program has been one of the highlights of my college career. Learning on a first hand basis of another country's agricultural system definitely gives perspective to the differences and similarities to agriculture on a world scale. It was an exciting and eye opening trip that was completely worth all of the time and efforts applied. Thanks to everyone who made this trip a possibility.

If I was told we were going back to Uruguay tomorrow I'd be on the first plane headed back down there!

"This trip was amazing. It was a perfect blend where you still learned a lot about the beef industry and got to see how they manage their cattle compared to the US, but you could still get that spring break feel of having a break from school. You learned a lot and worked hard, but you didn't feel like it because you were having such a good time. The staff answered all of our questions and the farms you visit are so welcoming and will show you everything they have to offer. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in studying abroad. 10 out of 10."

There's a saying that goes, "Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don't be sorry." My Uruguay study abroad program provided me with new insights concerning farming operations, a new interest in the mechanisms of international agriculture, and a newfound appreciation for different cultures and their people, not to mention new and enduring friendships. I got to live, travel, and adventure during this trip; I feel blessed; and I am certainly not sorry that I took advantage of this opportunity.

Being a Biological Science major in CAES I initially thought a Study Abroad centered around livestock and grain production would be outside my scope of view, however, completion of my trip has given me first-hand insight and knowledge on the topics than ever before.
