I really appreciated that the professors were there and explained their courses more in depth. It was also nice that each professor stated the necessary materials as well as what materials would be available once in Italy. The powerpoint was also useful by simplifying everything.

I didn't have any health care needs during the program, but the procedures and availability of care were made clear to us.

The hotels were all very nice, and the transportation and tours were very well planned.

I appreciated that we were given bus passes for every location that we went in Italy; it made travel very accessible and easy.

Dr. Bullock and Dr. Bankert both provided fascinating classes and reasonable workloads. They went out of their way to tailor their courses to the Italian context and to encourage us to explore how our American worldview shapes our perspective on European identity and governance.

The classes were wonderful. The professors truly were dedicated into getting each student to learn as much as possible in the time frame, and I never felt overwhelmed by the workload. The classes were also extremely interesting, and related very well to Italy!

The field trips were absolutely amazing. I really appreciated that we had something planned for almost everyday. The locations were a mix of things I had heard of as well as some hidden gems I might not have found on my own. They were all very well thought out.

The hotels in Rome, Florence, and Sorrento are AMAZING!!!

Group meals are the BEST! They're always so fun!

Anna Fleming Weatherly, Maymester 2018 Participant
I loved our group meals because they brought the group closer together, and we got to experience genuine Italian food at restaurants that we, as students on a budget, would otherwise not have gone to.

Interacting with local people and local culture did not just teach me about Europe or Italy. It also taught me what it means to be an American, what it means to be a college student, and what it means to be an American college student.

The program staff were all wonderful. They answered any questions I had and were very clear each day on informing us of our plans. Additionally they were very kind and truly made an effort to get to know each student which made going abroad much easier. I felt as though I could have gone to any of the professors if I had a question! It was clear all the professors were on the same page in telling us the information for the following days' activities which made it much easier for the group to leave on time. Additionally, the emails that were sent out by the staff with the itinerary were extremely helpful.

Amazing professors who traveled with us, amazing hotel staff (Marco, of course), and an amazing experience at every hotel/restaurant that we visited as a group. I was very happy with the restaurants and housing that were chosen for us. We became very close with the professors and staff there.

Austin Westbrook Gibbons, Maymester 2018 Participant
All five of the professors were approachable and eager to address any concerns we had.

I really cannot say it enough. I enjoyed every professor that traveled with us, and Dr. Farkas was such an asset to have.

Considering the quality of our hotel accommodations before and after our month at the Residence in Verona, as well as the transport and tickets for our excursions and tours, I would say that the cost was appropriate and completely worthwhile.

I did not realize it until talking to my friends in other study abroad programs (Cortona, for example). We were given great accommodations in Italy.

Great program-- loved the classes and the professors and had an overall great time on this trip!!

I cannot imagine a better study abroad experience! The professors were extremely knowledgable not only on the subject matter but also on Italy itself such as things the students could travel to in their free time. The classes were extremely interesting and also covered a broad array of topics. The scheduling of this program was also perfect. The amount of group time vs. free time was perfectly divided so that I always felt like I was making the most of my day but also had some freedom to choose what was most interesting to me.

A big added value component to this program was the first week, where we got to experience Rome and Florence, and the last week in Southern Italy. These trips gave us the opportunity to fully immerse in the culture and be independent. Every day we were able to visit a historical and beautiful part of the city that we were in that many people never get to see. Also, we gained knowledge of all of the museums and monuments that we visited though our amazing tour guides (especially in Florence and Rome) without the stress and negative externalities of being "in school". These two weeks were the most insightful of the whole trip.

You must go on this study abroad! The places you visit are absolutely stunning, the staff are the most amazing professors who not only help you on the trip but many months and years after, and the moments you encounter while on this trip are once in a lifetime. You will not regret participating in this study abroad.

Future participants should be prepared for early classes M-Th and pretty fast-paced lectures (at least on the Maymester), and take the classes seriously. They are completely manageable and this shouldn't be off-putting, but you have to respect the classes to get decent grades.

Anna Fleming Weatherly, Maymester 2018 Participant
My advice would be to travel at every opportunity that you get. There are three three-day weekends that you should take advantage and many half days to explore the city that you are in.

Maymester 2017 Participant
This trip changed my life. It changed how I view my life here at home and it made me realize the world is so much larger than we sometimes see it. We owe it to ourselves to explore it and get to know how other cultures operate and interact.

Maymester 2017 Participant
I would highly recommend this study abroad trip because it gives students the perfect combination of tours to must-see destinations, the opportunity to travel on the weekends, a good balance of class time and work load, and enough free time to get to know the cities you are staying in and the people on the trip!

Studying abroad in Italy gives you the chance to see so much. From artwork and architecture, to nature and food, Italy is just a beautiful country, and Verona is in the perfect location to encourage additional travel to other countries as well!

Studying abroad broadens your horizons on the world and shows you that the world really is bigger than Athens, your hometown, or even the United States of America. I cannot promise you that studying abroad will change your life, but I can promise you that studying abroad with challenge, refine, and reshape your worldview.
