The following program review responses have been selected for publication by UGA StudyAway
Program Evaluation
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
Between the information in the packet that Dr. Bianchelli and Dr. Greg gave us and the information provided to us on the UGA study abroad website, I felt more than prepared to go abroad.
Summer 2016 Participant
The orientation materials were extremely thorough and very helpful!
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
We were provided a thorough itinerary and syllabus, plus reading assignments and other materials in a timely manner before our trip.
Summer 2017 Participant
They were extremely helpful. It was nice to be able to hear experiences from other students and to be able to meet everyone face to face.
Summer 2017 Participant
The orientation details were helpful
Summer 2018 Participant
The list of recommended places to see and eat was extremely nice!
Megan Erin O'Keefe,
Summer 2018 Participant
The orientation packet is so helpful! It has absolutely everything you'll need to know about the program and staying in Rome for an extended period of time. There's info on courses, books, etc. but also on flights, info about the hotel, places to eat, atm locations, laundry- you name it, it's there!
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
Beyond making sure that we knew where the pharmacies were in each of our locations, Dr. Greg and Bianchelli were incredibly helpful and showed great concern for our health and safety.
Summer 2017 Participant
Never ran into a situation where it was needed
Stephanie Janae Colwell,
Summer 2018 Participant
Program directors are VERY helpful in assisting you with health care. They noticed I was easily motion sick and helped me navigate Italian pharmacies to get my issues resolved!
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Student Athletes should be made aware that ice is hard to find in Italy. So if you are nursing an old injury or think you might need to ice a strain, I would suggest bring an cold pack to put in the hotel fridge.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
I never felt like I was in any danger more serious than potentially being pick-pocketed.
Summer 2016 Participant
! The accommodations were incredible, and the staff was always hospitable. I always felt completely safe everywhere we went!
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
At no time did I not feel safe in our environment. We had been given information ahead of time on avoiding certain situations and preventing incidents such as pick-pocketing, etc. As far as I know, nobody on the program experienced any problem of this type.
Summer 2017 Participant
The hotel ercoli is in a nice area and all the places we went to were safe areas as wel
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
Dr. Greg and Dr. Bianchelli were always well prepared, making us feel safe and together on all excursions, etc.
Summer 2018 Participant
Incredibly comfortable and safe feeling walking around the area we were staying was even at all hours of the day or night.
Alejandra Marquez,
Summer 2018 Participant
Our hotel was in a great, business area of Rome. I never once felt afraid leaving our hotel.
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
There was never a moment during the faculty led program activities in which I felt unsafe. Dr. Gregg and Professor Biancelli were also very helpful in offer advice for activites during non-class time.
Christopher Copeland Rouse,
Summer 2018 Participant
Never felt unsafe in Rome
Kathleen Elizabeth Fowler,
Summer 2019 Participant
I always felt very safe wherever we were staying.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
The program was designed to help us learn and explore, and the workload and class schedule both reflected that exceptionally.
Summer 2016 Participant
It was a wonderful learning experience, and the assignments were always very reasonable in length and depth. We were given enough work to keep us engaged with learning, but not so much that we could not go out and explore the wonderful culture surrounding us.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
This was an outstanding academic experience, with very high quality lectures and a very appropriate number and level of assignments and special projects. The finals were rigorous (as they should be) but fair, based on our lectures and reading assignments.
Summer 2017 Participant
There was a good amount of work involved with this program, but because it was all in my major area, I loved doing it. The readings were interesting and quite amusing.
Summer 2017 Participant
Absolutely blown away by the quality of instruction given to the class by Chris Gregg. He is a man who is beyond passionate about the subject he teaches, and he wants everyone to walk away from this trip as a better, smarter, more mature individual.
Summer 2017 Participant
The workload fits right into what you are learning and helps solidify that information in your memory.
Caitlin Mary Yarde,
Summer 2017 Participant
We did enough work throughout the program that we all came out having learned an incredible amount of information. At the same time we never had so much work that it took away from the experience of living in Rome.
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
The program was intense, however, Dr. Greg was excellent (!!!) and gave us all the information (and more) we needed. He was a fair grader and his tests were fair.
Summer 2018 Participant
Was a very nice balance of both academic work and time able to be spent in recreation.
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
I learned alot of material without being overburdened or worrying about ruining my GPA while abroad.
Summer 2019 Participant
The quality was high and the workload was appropriate.
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
The quality of the lectures and corresponding activities was undeniably extraordinary. I can offer no words that would sufficiently explain how much I learned on this program. I was engaged with and retained the information, and Dr. Gregg ensures that he was always available to answer questions and clear up any confusion. Not in any academic environment in my life have I learned as much so thoroughly as I learned the material on this trip. The workload, if it was well-planned by the student, was reasonable and left plenty of time for personal enrichment in the city and the rest of the study abroad environment. I cannot possibly stress this enough: the quality of education in this trip was the most superb academic experience I have ever had in my life, and every instructor involved deserves the highest praise and respect for their efforts.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
The choices of the excursions were wonderful! They appealed to my adventurous side, and I learned a lot! It's also great for students who don't have the funds to take independent trips on the weekends.
Summer 2016 Participant
We saw so many things; it was such a wonderful experience! The excursions and independent site visits were filled with learning and enjoyment. It was amazing!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Highly enjoyed visiting Paestum and staying overnight. The hotel was great and being able to have time to enjoy the beach was fantastic. Recommend making this a permanent stop of future program trips!
Summer 2016 Participant
Perfect
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
I was extremely impressed by the obvious thought and planning that went into organizing the program. It was extremely well-rounded, and included a wide variety of sites and excursions, all of which tied very nicely into the overall themes of the lectures. This program combined three classes, and yet was organized in such a way that everything blended together into a comprehensive and fascinating whole, while also providing a thorough understanding of each class on its own.
Summer 2017 Participant
Every trip was an amazing experience. Dr. Gregg and Dr. Bianchelli never disappoint.
Georgianne Cushmore,
Summer 2017 Participant
I loved everywhere we went.
Summer 2017 Participant
The excursions were all amazing and the locations were beautiful and there was so much to learn at each one.
Caitlin Mary Yarde,
Summer 2017 Participant
We went to so many places on this trip that many people will never get to go to. Every excursion was relevant and worth it.
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
everything was well planned out and wonderful!!!
Megan Erin O'Keefe,
Summer 2018 Participant
The site visits were all really amazing and the excursions were fantastic! The Bay of Naples, Cerveteri, and Villa D'Este were some of the highlights of the trip!
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Dr. Gregg knows the sites that need to be seen in Rome and has carefully designed a route to see each sit in conjuction with the class material.
Christopher Copeland Rouse,
Summer 2018 Participant
Fabulous!
Summer 2019 Participant
The field trips were the best part of the program. The sites were amazing.
Kathleen Elizabeth Fowler,
Summer 2019 Participant
Some of my favorite days were the excursion days when we got to get out of the city for a day.
Steven William Tammen,
Summer 2019 Participant
All the places we went were relevant and interesting. I feel like we had a good mix of ancient and modern, churches and ruins/monuments, etc.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
The staff at the Ercoli are really nice and personable. I felt well cared-for, and the wonderful people who work there helped make my experience in Rome that much more enjoyable.
Summer 2016 Participant
It was perfect! By the end of the trip, the Hotel Ercoli felt like home!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Love the Ercoli so much but it is old so the elevator is tricky and the AC and wifi also have some problems. We attributed that to the fact that there were more students this year than previous years and we kept overloading the wifi and AC unit. But the staff is fantastic and so is the food and neighborhood so it was worth it.
Summer 2017 Participant
It was very annoying to have to deal with cold showers for an extended period of time. I am unsure what took so long to have the problem fixed but that was the main issue.
Summer 2017 Participant
The hotel ercoli was nice and cleaned regularly
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
The ercoli was very cozy :) and always clean and safe feeling!
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
Hotel Ercoli was in a great location! It was a little bit outside of downtown Rome, so it was in a quieter neighborhood. It was close to a bunch of great restaurants, an ATM, grocery stores and shops. The inside of the hotel is clean and comfortable and I had no problems with my room.
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Hot sometimes, but overall clean.
Christopher Copeland Rouse,
Summer 2018 Participant
Ercoli, Club 4 till I die
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
I was worried about not getting enough to eat because I'm a vegetarian, but I was pleasantly surprised to find food for me everywhere we went. The Ercoli staff even made vegetarian meals for me! It was all delicious!
Summer 2016 Participant
The food was always wonderful!
Summer 2017 Participant
He is an amazing chef, and I could eat his cooking all day long.
Summer 2017 Participant
Everything was really good except for the tuna pasta.
Summer 2017 Participant
Flavio did a great job at cooking us good meals every day
Kathleen Elizabeth Fowler,
Summer 2019 Participant
The arrangement for meals was wonderful. It made it so much easier to have weekday dinners already provided. I also appreciated the occasional extra lunches the program would provide because it gave us a good meal without us having to try to decide where to eat. The dinners at the hotel were not always the best but I appreciated the opportunity to try these homemade dishes.
Lacy Lynn Hamilton,
Summer 2019 Participant
I am a vegetarian, and the program directors as well as the owner of the Hotel Ercoli took good care of me!
Summer 2016 Participant
Being able to get out of class around one in the afternoon and be free to explore the city was the greatest opportunity. It was an incredible experience.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
We were able to interact on a daily basis with the local culture through our visits to various sites. In addition we were given the opportunity to attend cultural events, such as the ballet and opera. We also had a good amount of free time in which to explore the culture in our own way.
Summer 2017 Participant
Dr. Bianchelli was really good about explaining local events that were going on and giving us information/tips on where to find fun things to do.
Summer 2017 Participant
We got a chance to go to local grocery stores, etc., which got us a first hand look into their culture.
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
we were given most afternoons/evenings off to roam and wander. there were more than enough opportunities to interact with locals if you chose to do so
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Italians are welcoming and inviting. However, participants will need to personally seek out local cultural experiences.
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
The program provided plenty of time to go out and immerse oneself in the native culture, and particular excursions to a mozzarella farm, an opera, and a ballet performance all provided ample opportunity to enjoy Italian culture.
Summer 2016 Participant
They were always so helpful and had everything figured out. They were awesome!
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
Dr. Bianchelli and Dr. Gregg are a perfect team for this program. They were prepared at all times, did an outstanding job of herding a large group of students through Rome and other sites, and were always available if and when we needed help. In addition, the lectures they both gave were of the highest academic quality and were also extremely interesting and entertaining. I can't say enough about how impressed I am with how they conducted the program!
Summer 2017 Participant
Dr. Gregg and Professor Bianchelli did a phenomenal job at managing this program
Summer 2018 Participant
Dr. Gregg and Dr. Bianchelli and absolutely amazing. They were so helpful, informative, and committed to our experience
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
everyone was excellent, above and beyond what i had hoped for
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
I really appreciate all the hard work Dr. Gregg and Dr. Bianchelli put into this program. They never led us astray!
Alejandra Marquez,
Summer 2018 Participant
I could not have asked for a better duo- Dr. Bianchelli and Dr. Gregg!
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
Most of what I have to say was above already, but I will again repeat that Drs. Gregg & Bianchelli were phenomenal in every aspect of their roles, even coming up with instantaneous audibles when certain sites changed their hours or availability. The program was excellently managed and ran like a finely-tuned machine. I have nothing but praise.
Steven William Tammen,
Summer 2019 Participant
Everything was organized effectively and efficiently, including our entrances to various sites, and our group lunches some days. Any hiccups that came up had to do with the inefficiency of the city bureaucracy, the bureaucracy changing rules unexpectedly, or the transportation workers of the city going on strike, rather than being the professors' fault. I wouldn't personally change much in terms of the program's organization or execution if I were in charge.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
I'm registered with the Disability Resource Center, and both Dr. Bianchelli and Dr. Greg were incredibly considerate, patient, and helpful. I felt that I got the most out of my experience, and they did a great job making sure of that.
Summer 2016 Participant
The professors were always willing to answer questions or help you find a store or restaurant, or even to give you suggestions on things to do. I could not imagine having anyone else there to guide us through those summer weeks.
Summer 2016 Participant
Professors were amazing in every aspect.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
They were always happy and willing to help out in any way they could.
Summer 2017 Participant
If there was ever a problem, Dr. Bianchelli and Dr. Gregg were both willing to help however they could. They were essentially our trip parents.
Summer 2017 Participant
The staff did a great job at making sure we understood the material
Lily O Dabbs,
Summer 2018 Participant
they were always at hand to help with anything!
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
Program staff was always there for the students and was willing to help the students in anyway they could.
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Dr. Gregg and Dr. Biancelli have been doing this program for a long time together. They understand that each students have unique needs and they have learned what problems to expect too.
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
Even again I write with unfettered acclaim that the program staff were some of the most caring instructors under whom one could hope to study. There was no concern that they deemed unworthy of their attention, and they ensured that every student was informed, safe, and keeping pace with the rest of the class. There can be, and there must be no complaints about their genuine concern for the students in all capacities, and there was never a time during which they failed to address the needs of their students in any way whatsoever; they were perfectly effective as educators, organizers, and guardians of the students on the program.
Summer 2016 Participant
It was honestly a priceless experience! I cannot wait to go back to Italy!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
No doubt about it, this program is worth the money. I'll never have another opportunity to spend that much time in a country that I love so much so I'm thankful for the debt!
Summer 2016 Participant
For me, this program was priceless.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
This was worth every penny, and was a life-changing experience! This is the best way to learn and I wish every student could have the study abroad experience.
Summer 2017 Participant
It was a big expense, but I believe it was well worth it for the experiences I gained. Plus, the department offers many different scholarships to help with the cost of the program.
Summer 2017 Participant
This program is worth any amount of money.
Summer 2017 Participant
This program is absolutely worth it
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
I definitely think I got my money's worth with this program. The program provides bus tickets, metro passes, admission in all the museums we go to as a group, breakfast, dinner and lunch on excursion days.
Megan Erin O'Keefe,
Summer 2018 Participant
Absolutely 100% worth it- no question.
Christopher Copeland Rouse,
Summer 2018 Participant
For what we got, the price was quite cheap
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
For a program this extraordinary, the cost is perfectly reasonable. I will not complain about that.
Summer 2016 Participant
It was everything I expected and so much more!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Better than I could have imagined! I did things and had experiences I didn't think I would have and made some excellent friends while doing it. We even climbed up Mt. Vesuvius, not everyone can say that they've done that.
Summer 2016 Participant
My expectations were unrealistically high and were still blown away.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
The program went beyond my expectations in just about every way!
Summer 2017 Participant
The program completely exceeded my expectations. It was the best six weeks of my life.
Georgianne Cushmore,
Summer 2017 Participant
A+
Summer 2017 Participant
This program surpassed my expectations
James Kozol Wojtal,
Summer 2017 Participant
I loved how we were immersed in the learning, as well as in learning about Rome. I didn't expect to be confident traveling abroad, but this program helped me learn how to do that.
Caitlin Mary Yarde,
Summer 2017 Participant
I got so much more out of this program than I expected to. I got to go to so many more places outside of Rome and see so many places inside of Rome that I never knew existed.
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
This program exceeded my exceptions. I had the chance to explore Rome in a unique way that now I feel like I can explore any city.
Alejandra Marquez,
Summer 2018 Participant
I honestly loved this program so much. I loved the freedom we were given because we could literally have the afternoon and evening to explore Rome. Sometimes it was a little bit of a maze on how to get back but honestly, I prefer to learn as I go rather than to be babied and taken to the hotel after every lecture. Dr.Gregg knows so much about Roman history and I could literally ask any question and he would know! I am so grateful to have gotten the chance to go on this study abroad.
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS
Christopher Copeland Rouse,
Summer 2018 Participant
Went above and beyond
Summer 2019 Participant
The difficulties of the program (the heat and exercise) were clearly detailed in the orientation, however, the orientation failed to show how great the program truely was.
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
I had no strong pre-conceived notions before the program, though even the most fanciful of dreams would have been met by this experience. Again I say, it was a superb time.
Summer 2016 Participant
None
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Dr.Gregg and Dr.Bianchelli are fantastic and I couldn't have asked for better people to introduce me to Italy. Dr.Gregg gives amazing lectures and provided so much information about everything that we saw. I would love to take him with me every time I traveled so he could give me information about those places too! Dr. Bianchelli is amazingly sweet and kind but she is also incredibly knowledgeable. I highly enjoyed learning some Italian from her, discussing plant life and accompanying her to the ballet. I'd like to thank them for an unforgettable once in a lifetime trip and wish them luck on future program trips!
Summer 2016 Participant
Dr. Gregg and Dr. Bianchelli are the greatest!
Summer 2017 Participant
I wish I could go on the trip again.
Summer 2017 Participant
I would have appreciated have exams in the morning so that I could have the rest of the day to explore the city. It was odd having them in the middle of the afternoon.
Summer 2017 Participant
Amazing overall experience
Neil William Justice,
Summer 2018 Participant
Everything about this trip was fantastic. It's hard for me to say anything negative about the program, and I really mean that. Close enough to perfect!
Kathleen Elizabeth Fowler,
Summer 2019 Participant
The program did a good job of balancing free time and scheduled time. I felt like I always had enough time to do or see anything I wanted to, but I didn't feel overwhelmed by having too many choices.
Samantha Lee Richt,
Summer 2019 Participant
I had a fantastic time on this trip, and I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of this experience.
David Gates Sullivan,
Summer 2019 Participant
The academic quality of this trip is incredible. Just today, even after the trip is over, I took my parents on a tour of the triumphal route through the city of Rome and was able to give great detail about every monument we saw in the way. The instructors have just added an accelerant to my already brightly-burning enthusiasm for the Classics. And so even one more time I will say, the program and its instructors were amazing.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
I would recommend to future participants to figure out ahead of time what they want to see and what they want to get out of the experience. Don't leave it up to others when it comes to planning your own adventures. Try your best to accomplish all that you want to.
Summer 2016 Participant
No matter how much money you think you are going to spend or limit yourself to spending, you are wrong. Make sure you bring double of what you originally thought, simply because it's Italy! You are going to spend so much money on gelato, souvenirs, pizza and pasta, and outside trips, but it is all worth it in the end!
Summer 2016 Participant
Make plans as early as possible!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Make sure to bring lots of sunscreen, comfy shoes and plenty of stuff to deal with blisters. Also recommend buying your own wifi hot spot so you don't have to deal with slow wifi at the hotel because it gets spotty when everyone gets on at the same time. Remember to pack lightly but efficiently because you will buy a lot of stuff, pack a water bottle and make sure it clips onto something because its annoying to carry it all day. Small notebooks for note taking or just use your phone and also be prepared to visit churches that require you to cover up.
Summer 2016 Participant
Please take the pre-reqs and come in prepared to fully experience the Classical world.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
I would recommend this program to anyone, of almost any age. Being an older student myself, I was concerned about whether I could keep up with the group. Students should be aware that it's a strenuous program, sometimes rather grueling for someone in their 50's, but I did it! There is so much more in addition to the quality learning that students will get from the program, both culturally and personally. I do think that the Wi-fi issue needs to be addressed in the future, if possible.
Summer 2017 Participant
I would tell future participants to make sure they go to Florence during the long weekend. It is well worth it.
John Conrad Newton,
Summer 2017 Participant
Keep an open mind, keep a journal and dont abuse the wifi
Summer 2017 Participant
Advice: be prepared to get your steps in and pack plenty of clothes that are comfortable for walking 5 miles a day.
James Kozol Wojtal,
Summer 2017 Participant
It is totally doable to be vegetarian, but it takes some planning, and willingness to talk to Prof. Bianchelli and Flavio.
Caitlin Mary Yarde,
Summer 2017 Participant
If you are even considering this program please go, it was absolutely life changing and you will never get an opportunity like this again.
Michelle D Manganiello,
Summer 2018 Participant
For future participants:
1. Make sure to bring bug spray and sunscreen. Rome is sunny, hot and has no shortage of mosquitoes.
2. The textbooks required for these courses weighed my suitcase down a lot, so if you do not want that extra weight, find the books online or borrow them from the program. 3. Be prepared to eat a lot of carbs; the main meals in Rome are pizza and pasta.
4. Make sure to bring at least one jacket and pair of jeans for places you go to that are farther up north/colder. Also bring long skirts and dresses to be prepared when you go into a church.
5. ATM cards are very useful. Have one to make sure you can go to the ATM at any time and get euros if you need them.
6. Prior to this program, I had no knowledge at all about Classics or Rome. I was a bit worried about that, but Dr. Gregg was such a great teacher that everything was completely understandable.

Don't forget to apply for scholarships- this program has a bunch and they can be really helpful in the long run!
Mckenzie Hope Peterson,
Summer 2018 Participant
Prepare for the trip as much as you can, but expect plans to change and be open to new experiences.
Kathleen Elizabeth Fowler,
Summer 2019 Participant
Take advantage of all of the extra opportunities provided to you with this program. Even if you feel tired it will be worth it to have these experiences.
Daniel Joohan Park,
Summer 2019 Participant
Don't be afraid of exploring the city on your own. It can be a liberating experience not being tied down to the program's schedule.
I'm also a non-classics major/minor, but the lessons were inclusive and easy-to-understand from an "outsider's" perspective.

When they say it's going to be a lot of walking, they are not kidding. That said, you will still have energy to enjoy yourself. Just being water, sunscreen, and a good hat to be safe from the sun and dehydration. Most of all, really try to engage with the material; for me it was easy, but I don't know if everyone had that experience. What I do know, however, is that, once you engage with the material, it will be one of the most informative experiences of your life.
Anna Marie Davis,
Summer 2016 Participant
For every college student, it boils down to this: What do you want to get out of your college experience? There's a lot of really great opportunities in a lot of different places. Studying abroad can be really exciting and insightful, and programs like the UGA Classics Study Abroad Program are set up to help you make the most of your time at college. Consider it if you can. Adventure and academics make for a fantastic pair.
Summer 2016 Participant
UGA Classics in Rome is the opportunity of a lifetime. You will learn so much about Roman culture and history, about Italian culture, and in the end about yourself. You will gain wonderful new friendships that will lasts forever, and the memories will be the types of stories you tell your grandkids one day. In other words, it's more than worth it!
Summer 2016 Participant
Go abroad! You won't regret it!
Jessica Ann Mintz,
Summer 2016 Participant
Just go for it. It may seem like a lot of money, but it is beyond worth it in the end.
Summer 2016 Participant
Rome really becomes your home for six weeks, and it was the most amazing experience!
Summer 2016 Participant
A beautiful city with amazing instruction and excursions; the best decision of my collegiate career.
Laura Jeanne White,
Summer 2016 Participant
Students will get so much more than they imagine out of study abroad, and especially this program!
Summer 2017 Participant
This program was a life changing experience. I felt immersed in the history and the modern legacy of the ancient Romans. If I could go on this trip again, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Georgianne Cushmore,

"Rome feels like home."
Summer 2017 Participant
Applying to UGA Classics in Rome was one of the best decisions I ever made. The program was life-changing and allowed me to experience things I never would have otherwise.
John Conrad Newton,
Summer 2017 Participant
Good time for anyone who wants an adventure in Italy and learn a lot a bit about classics.
Summer 2017 Participant
One of the best academic experiences I've ever had. Chock full of interesting material, an amazing introduction to contemporary and ancient Italian culture, and a great teaching staff.
Summer 2017 Participant
This program taught me so much about the history and culture of Rome
Summer 2017 Participant
I don't know why anyone would go on a different program. This was the best 6 weeks of my college career.
James Kozol Wojtal,
Summer 2017 Participant
This program taught me how to operate in another culture, to learn everywhere I go, and to trust myself even in unfamiliar environments.
Caitlin Mary Yarde,
Summer 2017 Participant
This program will make you a more independent and mature person. The life lessons you will learn, the friends you will meet, and the memories you will make are absolutely priceless.
Stephanie Janae Colwell,
Summer 2018 Participant
This program exceeded my expectations of what a study abroad could be. THIS program is what traveling is all about: not just seeing sites just for the sake of seeing them, but actively studying them with full context and taking ownership of the knowledge, so that when it's all said and done, you truly know things about the world. This isn't just a trip for your Instagram. This is culture, this is experience, this is fun.

This program tremendously exceeded my expectations by providing both a quality learning experience and opportunities to immerse myself in both Italian and ancient Roman culture. I did not know that traveling to another country could be this fulfilling and enjoyable until this trip.

This program was exceptional; I learned so much about Rome as a city, about the people I went on the program with and about myself! I would go again in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

The six weeks that I spent on this program were probably some of the best in my life! If you have the opportunity to go on this trip- take it! Dr. Gregg and Dr. Bianchelli are two wonderful people and you will learn so much while you are away and meet some really amazing people. Study abroad is something everyone should try and if you're going to do it, this is the program to be on!

The UGA in Rome program changed me as a student and a person. Layer by layer the professor peeled back the mysteries of the archeological remains left in Rome. I was challenged to critically question what I was seeing, but also consider what was missing from the picture. I began to look at the world with new eyes. As a follower of Jesus, I came to Roem with many questions about the origins of Christianity. I left Rome more confident in my ability to question and consider philosophical questions bigger than my own personal identity.

This program exceeded my expectations and gave me an opportunity to feel at home even while being 5,000 miles away. I would recommend this program to anyone who is even slightly interested in Classical Art or Classical Culture.

This trip allowed me to learn so much information in a short amount of time. It was an irreplaceable experience. I don't think there is a better classroom than actual historical sites and museums in the area.

With this program you're more than tourists, you are a Roman.

If you want to wander around Rome and Italian archaeological sites while learning about imperial might, Catholic politics, architectural progression, gladiators, Renaissance ideals, Italian Fascism, and which gelato shops in Rome are the best, this program is for you.
