The orientation was basic and what was expected of a typical orientation. It was fairly useful.

In my exchange country there was great accessibility to affordable healthcare that was included with admission into the university. I fortunately never had to used my insurance.

I felt safer in Singapore than I have ever felt in any country due to the strict laws and expectations for the citizens. Around Southeast Asia, there were instances where I did not feel particularly safe, however if you make smart decisions and stay aware, you can avoid finding yourself in dangerous situations.

I really enjoyed my courses at the National University of Singapore. The teaching style there was different than at UGA but I feel like I really was able to learn a lot and in a different way which benefitted me as a student. The work was challenging and the expectations were high, however I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

Singapore is a gateway to all of Southeast Asia. Changi airport became a home to me and because of Singapore's prime location, I was able to visit 10 countries in just four and a half months. I was able to see cities, beaches, jungles, rice paddies, and temples during my time and every excursion was so unique. Within Singapore there are also many things to do including visiting cultural districts such as Kampong Glam, Little India, and Chinatown and exploring the local islands like Pulau Ubin. The bay area was also a sight to see with light shows and great restaurants and entertainment.

Only one class, excursions were very appropriate for the class and let us get a first-hand look at how the food safety programs in Singapore worked.

When I was told that I received a dorm room in Singapore without air conditioning I will admit that I was worried. It was hot, however the room was clean and there was a good fan that kept me cool enough to be livable. The dorm complex itself was well built and it was all inclusive of everything I needed including two food courts with several good food options, a gym with basketball and tennis courts, and a mini store with all kinds of goods. It was also a very green complex which made it feel a bit like a garden escape. ]

Nice and clean, were some bugs/lizards but it's in the tropics- not much you can do. No air-conditioning, which is hard at first but gets better over time.

Through my courses and collaboration on projects I was able to meet several local students. Outside of classes, however, it seemed as though many groups of friends were very exclusive in Singapore and thus I found myself primarily hanging out with other exchange students. Fortunately, I was able to meet people from all over the world and learn more about a group of cultures rather than just one.

There were nice programs designed for students to learn more about Singaporean culture and life.

As an exchange student I was able to immerse myself fully. Participation was more difficult just due to the social culture, but eventually I was able to puncture that as well.

My program was worth what I paid and more. I got to have the experience of a life time paying in-state tuition.

It's probably not for everyone, but the sheer breadth of experiences available, in such a modern city, makes an exchange very worth it.

Be open to all of the new experiences that the program will bring and don't be scared to get outside of your comfort zone.

It will be nice to not take to many hard classes since you will be tempted to travel much often. This will allow you to avoid any missing assignments/classes or regret about not able to explore the different cultures while you are abroad.

For future participants looking to study in Southeast Asia, do not hesitate to try new things and new experiences. Trying local foods wherever you go is the easiest and cheapest way to have new experiences.

Studying abroad was one of the best decisions I made in college. I was able to explore so many countries and cultures while still taking the classes I needed to complete my engineering degree.

Singapore, and NUS, gave me a chance to participate in many cultures typically not included in the study abroad spotlight. It was outside of my comfort zone, and that's what I wanted.

The National University of Singapore presents a very modern campus that allows students to excel in both their studies and extra-curricular activities. Singapore also provides many opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the rich and diverse cultures in Southeast Asia.
